IP Funding for Turkish SMEs: KOSGEB and Other Sources

Date Published

Professional handshake — closing an agreement

IP spending is one of the first things Turkish SMEs postpone, even though registration costs are eligible expenditure in several public support programmes. The obstacle is usually not budget but knowing which door to knock on.

KOSGEB

KOSGEB supports industrial property costs as an eligible expense line inside its programmes rather than as a standalone scheme. Programme structures, ceilings and call windows are renewed periodically, so there is no single permanent figure — the practical approach is to align the filing calendar with open calls and clarify eligibility before spending.

If you export, the foreign filing support is stronger

For an SME filing abroad, the Ministry of Trade’s foreign trademark registration support is the highest-yield item: half the spend, up to three quarters in target markets. It requires the mark to be registered in Türkiye first.

Patents also carry a tax angle

Support is not only about grants. Certain income attributable to patented or utility-model-protected inventions benefits from a corporate tax exemption, which for manufacturers can outweigh the grant programmes entirely.
